Everybody in Seattle's building has spent camp saying the same thing: this defense is the best in football. Cam Ward and the Titans offense gave that reputation its first real stress test in joint practices, and now the actual scoreboard gets a say. The catch is that the starters who built the hype probably won't be the ones settling it. This one gets decided by backups and roster-bubble guys trying to make a case, not the names on the highlight reels.
That's what makes the spread interesting. A line like this on a preseason game isn't really about who the Seahawks are, it's about who Seattle's third and fourth string is against Tennessee's own group of hopefuls. The joint practice storyline set the stage, but it doesn't walk onto the field with them.
So take the hype for what it was: practice talk. Now Seattle has to lay the number with backups on the field, and Tennessee gets a shot to make the loudest defense in camp look ordinary before the games even count.
