Diamondbacks vs. Giants: Can SF's Shredded Rotation Hold?

Carson Whisenhunt was supposed to be part of the answer. Instead he's the third Giants starter this season to blow out his UCL, and San Francisco is running out of ways to spin a pitching staff that keeps losing arms to the surgeon instead of the other team's lineup. That is not a bad week. That is a organizational trend, and it is happening in the same season the Giants are trying to hang around in a race.

Arizona shows up to San Francisco with no such crisis, just a lineup that gets to feast on whatever patchwork arm the Giants trot out next. Every fifth day now feels like an experiment for San Francisco: who's next, who's healthy, who's actually a big league starter and who's a name being thrown at a wall. The Diamondbacks don't need a storyline to like their odds here. They just need the Giants to keep bleeding pitchers.

So the moneyline isn't really about one game anymore. It's about whether a rotation held together with medical tape can still get outs against a team with nothing to distract it. Arizona or San Francisco, straight up, tonight.
