Joe Brady doesn't get a soft landing. His first game as an NFL head coach is on the road, against a Houston defense built to make debuts miserable. NRG Stadium isn't where you want to learn on the job.
Every new coach gets picked apart in week one, but this matchup picks a particularly bad week to do it. Brady spent years building offenses as a coordinator, but calling the shots as the guy in charge is a different job entirely, and Houston's defense is exactly the kind of unit that punishes a first-time head coach for still figuring out who he wants to be. The Texans aren't asking anyone to be patient with them either. They know what they have on that side of the ball, and they're going to lean on it from the opening snap.
This is one of those games where the story is bigger than the box score, at least for one sideline. A rookie head coach against a defense with something to prove, in a building that isn't kind to visitors. Bills or Texans, somebody's plan survives the day.
